Concerning the Masters Scholarships in Human Rights and Democratization in Africa offered by the University of Pretoria: A select group of 25–30 outstanding students enrol in the coveted one-year intensive course, the LLM/MPhil in Human Rights and Democratization in Africa (HRDA), and spend six months in Pretoria and another six months at one of the twelve partner institutions across Africa. They get instruction from distinguished human rights speakers and participate in several hands-on training activities.
In Africa, it is the only course of its sort. Graduates join the HRDA Alumni Association, whose 537 members are now engaged in a range of human rights activities, from community-based initiatives to public service positions to involvement with international organizations like the UN and African Union. The Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, South Africa, is inviting applicants from all African nations to apply for admission to study for a Master’s degree (LLM/MPhil) in Human Rights and Democratization in Africa.
The LLM/MPhil in Human Rights and Democratization in Africa is a special program that accepts 25 to 30 African citizens who meet the requirements below and who ideally have some prior experience working in the human rights field:
Students studying law: A degree that allows entry into the legal profession, such as an LLB or license en droit
Other students (those who do not study law): a minimum of an Honors degree in a human rights or democratizing subject
For a year, they study under eminent human rights professors, receiving invaluable practical training in the process. It is the only course of its kind in Africa.
